Manglik (or Mangal Dosha) is the condition where Mars sits in your 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house. About 25% of all people have it — so already, "rare curse" overstates the case.
Why those five houses
In each, classical Vedic texts say Mars influences:
- 1st (Ascendant) — personality, aggression
- 4th — home, family, mental peace
- 7th — your spouse (directly!)
- 8th — health and longevity
- 12th — bed pleasure, expenses
The traditional fear: if your partner isn't also Manglik, "conflict" follows. Hence the rumor: Manglik must marry Manglik.
What the texts actually say (and astrologers underplay)
Vedic texts list explicit Manglik Cancellation rules:
- Both partners are Manglik — cancels instantly
- Jupiter in your partner's 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th — cancels Mangal Dosha
- Saturn in the same house as Mars — Saturn mutes Mars
- Both partners over 28 — texts say the dosha softens with age
- Mars retrograde — its strength is reduced
Worth knowing: Texts grade Mangal Dosha "light" to "heavy." Mars only in the 12th (the most distant) is the lightest. Most astrologers don't bother making the distinction.
Celebrities who are Manglik and married fine
From published charts:
