Astrologers always ask for three things:

1. Birth date (required)
2. Birth time (preferred)
3. Birth place (province is enough)

Why do 2 and 3 matter?

Because of the Lagna (Ascendant)

Your Lagna is the zodiac sign rising over the horizon at the moment of your birth. It shifts about every 2 hours — meaning two people born on the same day but 4 hours apart can have completely different Ascendants.

The Lagna is your "outer self" — the personality others see, your starting energy. The Sun is the "inner self," the Moon is your emotional self.

Example: Two people born Jan 1, 2000. One at 6 AM in Bangkok — Virgo rising. One at 2 PM in Chiang Mai — Taurus rising. Their outer personalities feel meaningfully different.

And the houses (Bhavas)

Once we know the Lagna, we can place all nine planets into 12 houses. Each house governs a slice of life:

• 7th = spouse
• 5th = children, fun, romance
• 10th = career
• 4th = home, family

Without a birth time, we can't locate the houses — and so deeper readings aren't possible.

What if I only have a birth date?

Almost every feature still works, because most rely on:

• Sun sign — date alone is enough
• Moon sign + Nakshatra — Moon shifts roughly once a day; if you're on a boundary, Narak defaults to noon and discloses it
• Other planet signs (Mars, Venus, ...) — they move slowly, date is enough

Features that need time + province

• Lagna in the Vedic profile display
• Personalized Muhurta — needs accurate Tara
• Family / Children chart (5th/7th house) — needs Lagna
• House overlays in Synastry — needs both Lagnas

How Narak handles this

• Province-level only by PDPA design — we don't store street addresses
• Optional — base features work without
• Deletable any time from Profile
• Never shared — encrypted, never sent to third parties

Add it or skip it

Onboarding asks only what's necessary — date is required; time and province are optional. You can add them later in Profile.

Tip: If you know the time roughly ("about 3 AM, mom said") — that's enough. The chart will be accurate for the features that need it. If you have no idea, skip — most features still work.
